Being different makes us who we are – but we should never shy away from the similarities we share because that is the one thing that we can use to learn from one another. An effort is needed from all parties concerned as we set out to make the world a smaller place through language.
As a teacher, the classroom should be a place where everyone feels welcome. The importance of this is highlighted by the fact that as a teacher you are not dealing with students of the same age, understanding, and abilities; their requirements for a specific lesson or class may change as their day goes by. For this reason, certain core qualities are needed to make sure that you maximize the twenty-five minutes you have with a student.
Punctuality plays a key role in starting and ending classes on time. Most of the older students have time constraints due to busy days at work and punctuality means that you respect them and their time. For the younger ones, a bubbly personality is the key. The younger students rely on the teacher for the lesson to be delivered in a comprehensive manner. On the other hand, the older students tend to be more interactive and need the teacher to be more flexible in their approach.
It is important to note that most of the students that a teacher will encounter are beginners, young and old. A teacher’s patience with his/her students can influence whether they teach one class a week or fifty classes a week. This means that if you are patient with your students in the class, they feel a sense of comfort and as a result, they become more confident, and they book more of your classes.
The company expects you to be professional at all times, and to be a top tutor. Being a top tutor, you need to have the core fundamentals which are patience, flexibility, punctuality, and most importantly, personality. A dedicated effort in marrying these qualities will not only separate you from the rest but will ensure that students remember you and enroll in more of your classes.
