Being a wife and a mother is what I’ve always dreamt to be, having a husband and a little child yearning for my presence, love and care. I thought it was an easy thing to do, but I was wrong.
For some, when you say, you’re a SAHM (stay-at-home mom), they would think that you have plenty of time watching TV, sleeping, shopping, hairdressing and doing unproductive things; on the other hand, some can understand that one whole day is really not enough to do household chores, taking care of the baby (feed/bathe/play/teach), and taking care of yourself is just a plus. As my son grows, I spent more time homeschooling him, in preparation for big school. Did research on lesson plans, downloaded and printed lesson materials that we would use in homeschooling. I learned how to be more patient, I learned some tricks that would make a toddler/preschooler listen and finish the activities (which I am now using while teaching in Acadsoc). In short, I also gained knowledge while teaching my son. Now that my son is studying in a big school, my SAHM leveled up, (we don’t have a helper) I go with my son to school every day and waited for him to finish, once we get home, we study and do his homework, when he’s asleep I do house chores.
Sending a child to a private school is a big responsibility, which means, we need another source of income and working in an office won’t work for us. A co-mom at my son’s school introduced me to Acadsoc. One of her friends posted on Facebook that they are hiring. I gave it a try, and God has been gracious, and let me join the Acadsoc family and earn a reasonable and competitive amount that would fill the needs of our family.
Teaching in Acadsoc for me is like a roller coaster ride, having that feeling of excitement and fear at the same time. It’s like homeschooling all over again; prepare lessons, research on some activities that you may add in class, BUT this time, it’s a VIRTUAL CLASS (which is much complicated, especially for students below 8 years old). Teaching a child is not an easy task, imagine the tantrums that the child would throw if he or she didn’t get what he/she wants. What more for children who can’t understand what you’re saying or teaching. This is where me being a mom comes in, I would talk to the child like how I talk to my son, but more TPR (Total Physical Response), I have been using almost all of my son’s homeschooling activities, props, and songs in class and in return, my students learn the lessons quicker because they enjoyed the class. Thanks to Acadsoc, I realized the difference between a qualified K12 English teacher and me, which requires many practices and tries before finally becoming an expert in teaching kids.
In my 5 months of teaching in Acadsoc, I honestly say that I’m still learning. Learning different ways of handling both students and parents. Learning different ways of teaching a child, because not all children are the same. Acadsoc has been helping me in improving my teaching skills through their different pieces of training, learned some tips and tricks from some co-teachers. Lastly, I’ve been blessed with a direct supervisor that listens and motivates her team, which makes my teaching career in Acadsoc awesome.
